Community grants are those funding which are used within a specific geographical area. These grants also known as the community block grants designate funds which are received from a larger aggregator of funds, such as the state agency. It is a well known fact that community can be formed either in a state or a city or any other geographical area or also by a certain group of people. So community grants usually circumferences and aims at providing funds to a single community or a targeted group of people. The money is very often awarded to those who have small to medium sized foundations and work with a specific focus.

The grants given to the community often derive initially due to the donations from local philanthropists in the form of bequests or from the sale of assets of a larger foundation that has ceased to function, or spun off part of its original mission focus and created a new foundation. There are many non profit organizations, often very larger ones who provide these grants to usher in a change in the local community. The grants specifically target to help those who work towards a specific mission and develop projects like creating parks, schools, and place for recreation, library and others for the betterment of the community. Mostly the local politicians, successful businessmen, elite citizens of the local community and even non-profits study the proposals given to them.
